Flack Interiors Provides Solutions for Your Space

By Kathy Flack, ASID For the Courier

Reprinted from the Waterloo Courier Home & Garden Section, 2008

Interior designers can manage the impact of your environment.

From simple to elaborate, interiors of today’s homes and businesses are a collaboration of many disciplines.  As an interior designer and owner of Flack Interior Design Associates, Inc., I address the architectural space provides from many angles with the client’s best interest in mind.  Working with the scope of a client’s project and general contractors, electricians and trade professionals, from painters to installers, we can help you connect the process.  With a wealth of interior products, design concepts and specifications, interior designers are able to provide clients with potential solutions.  Our experience is unique and encourages new ways of thinking both creativity and functionally.  Our approach is personal with useful options for you to choose.  We are a contributing design platform that widens you project capacity and potential.

Our process is not a mystery.  We take each step of the project seriously, with the end result as your vision.  The following steps will show the tasks and strategies we program into your projects.

1.  Scope of service: Interview client, take accurate measurements, note all existing details.

2.  Preliminary design concept – space plan, color, textile and furnishings selections.

3.  Cost data proposals.

4.  Completion of orders and delivery.

If you have worked with an interior design professional, you know how valuable our services and products are.  If you have not, you don’t know what you are missing.  We might be just what you are looking for – and more than you expect.

After graduating with an interior design in business degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1973, I became a furniture sales associate and learned to relate to consumers and to respect their individual perspectives.  As an interior designer, I’ve been given extraordinary opportunities in Iowa, Arizona and California to work on beautiful and innovative homes, offices and commercial projects.  One of the most exciting commercial projects was the early renovation of the YMCA into the River Plaza Building and won first place national lighting and design award.  Flack Interior Design Associates has won several ASID project awards and had a project published in Architectural Digest “Best Midwest Interior Designers.”

Since 1988 I have lobbied for interior design registration.  The significance of the health, safety and welfare of the public as it relates to interior design and what we conceptualize, sell and specify is of great importance.  Finally, in 2005, Iowa became the 26th state to legislate this issue after the passage of the Iowa Interior Design Title Act.  This law serves as a benchmark for standards.
