Elements of Design - ASID Showcase illustrates how to created warm, inviting rooms

The use of layers and textures are unifying elements in this year’s American Society of Interior Designers showcase.  Faux leopard print carpeting infuses Kathy Flack’s family room design with exotic energy.  Although it has high-end appeal, it is actually a fully woven, low-luster carpet in durable Olefin.

A curved, dark gray chenille tuxedo sectional sofa grounds the room.  Faux raw silk wall covering, antique bronze-finished crown molding and ceiling-to-floor draperies bordered in deep chocolate brown build layer upon layer.

“Making a small space appear larger is about paying attention to detail.  The wall color and draperies unify to create a long wall and visually expand the space,” said Flack of Flack Interior Design Associates, a division of Simpson Furniture in Cedar Falls.  She was assisted by Brandy Smith.
