Details never go out of fashion. The best-dressed rooms pull together the threads of texture, pattern and color to create spaces that fit as easily as a finely tailored garment. Add a few haute couture touches, and a space becomes both stylish and comfortable.
Favorite collections and luxurious touches glitter like jewelry in the eclectic living room-library designed by Kathy Flack, ASID, and Brandy Smith, allied ASID. Those elements are tightly edited – lions and crystal balls – and judiciously arranged.
Grass cloth wall covering provides an environmentally “green” backdrop for a settee reupholstered in off-white linen, paired with an ottoman wearing bouillon fringe and in repetitive print reminiscent of leopard spots.
Dressed in warm metallic copper with nail-head trim, the leather chair and ottoman is a real head-turner, while plain and bejeweled olive silk pillows add jolts of color.
The flat-screen TV doesn’t look out of place sitting atop a mirrored glass console. “In smaller spaces, you want reflective surfaces to reflect light and make the space appear larger.
The console, and the large mirror above the sofa, picks up and reflects light in the room,” explains Flack, owner of Flack Interior Design Associates.
